Provincial Offences

Ontario’s Provincial Offences Act is a regulatory, quasi-criminal statute that enforces a wide range of provincial offences, such as those under Highway Traffic Act (e.g. driving infractions) and the Trespass Act.

If convicted of a provincial offence, you could be fined or jailed or both. Some types of provincial offences will result in a ticket being issued; for others, you may be summoned to court to appear for a trial or other resolution of the matter.

Many provincial offences are classified as either strict or absolute liability offences meaning the defences you may raise are limited.

Effective counsel can assist you in preventing or reducing the fines or other penalties you could face.
